Challenge
The Museum of Applied Arts (MAK) was founded by Kaiser Franz Joseph I as “k. k. Österreichischen Museums für Kunst und Industrie” (Austrian Museum of Art and Industry). Today, MAK addresses our future by confronting sociopolitical issues with perspectives and approaches from modern art, applied art, design and architecture and acting as a driving force for positive change.
Its main building was built in neo-Renaissance style on the Stubenring in Vienna, based on plans by Heinrich von Ferstel. Various doors in the historic building are fitted with an online EAC system, but only in a few areas due to the technical work involved and its associated costs. An additional, easy to install access solution was required for other doors, which must meet the requirements of a modern museum complex.
Solution
The eCLIQ electronic locking system offers full flexibility with state-of-the-art management. This is why MAK chose the system. This uncomplicated and reliable solution is distinguished by robust, durable and secure components, as well as its compact form and striking design.
The deciding factor, however, was that access authorisations could be changed quickly and easily with eCLIQ , which was essential due to the museum’s constantly changing exhibitions. Lost keys are simply deactivated. Choosing Software as a Service (SaaS) to run their eCLIQ locking takes back-end system management off MAK’s hands. The SaaS solution supports comprehensive remote access control via the CLIQ Web Manager and, because server software is always up-to-date, SaaS subscribers benefit from enhanced cybersecurity. Data redundancy, high availability and round-the-clock support are part of ASSA ABLOY’s Service Level Agreement.
The system was easy to install. Only the locking cylinders had to be replaced: no holes were drilled in historic doors and frames for routing cables.
