ASSA ABLOY launches new guide and CPD about the ‘Golden Thread’

With the ‘Golden Thread’ becoming increasingly vital to construction, ASSA ABLOY has launched a new guide and CPD to demystify the concept and help accelerate its adoption across the industry.

Titled “The ‘Golden Thread’: A Quick Guide”, the guide explains what the concept means for everyone involved in the design, build and maintenance phases, detailing their responsibilities and how they can ensure they comply. It is complemented by our new RIBA approved CPD on the topic, which educates industry professionals on the issues in detail.

The guide makes clear that everyone involved in the three phases is impacted by the ‘Golden Thread’, which derives from Dame Judith Hackitt’s ‘Building a Safer Future’ report, written in the wake of the Grenfell fire. This means the architect and interior designer, the main contractor, the facility manager, the manufacturer and the accountable persons are responsible for the safety of those who will occupy/use a building.

The document also introduces Openings Studio, our cloud-based, BIM plug-in tool for the creation, visualisation, modification and management of door openings. Specifically developed to meet the challenges of the ‘Golden Thread’, Openings Studio enables every stakeholder to contribute to the digital record through a user-friendly mobile app.
