Challenge
The Shard lies on the South Bank in the city’s vibrant new London Bridge Quarter. The “vertical city” will be the tallest building in Western Europe, at 1,016ft tall, and will house offices, restaurants, luxury residencies and a top-class hotel. With observatory views spanning 40 miles across the city, a high volume of visitors is expected, and public safety is paramount.
Solution
Steel fire doors from ASSA ABLOY Security Doors have been installed into the risers of the Spire core, above the viewing galleries, in order to prevent the spread of fire or smoke in the event of an emergency, and to provide safe exit points for the high number of visitors.
