eCLIQ master key system secures more than 30 schools in Düsseldorf.

In 2015, the city of Düsseldorf launched a large-scale initiative to improve educational infrastructure across the state capital. Since then, many school buildings have been renovated, converted and expanded as part of this modernization program.

A number of new buildings have also been built: Among them is the Friedrich-Rückert-Gymnasium, a full-time grammar school in the north of Düsseldorf. Founded in the early 1970s, this European School with a focus on languages is attended by around 700 pupils. The Lore-Lorentz school, another new-build, is a vocational college and regarded as the district’s most modern school building.

Key criteria

  • A locking solution that meets the requirements of modern school operations, offering cost-effectiveness, security and efficient workflow management
  • A system to suit a vast range of applications, including classrooms, profession-specific rooms (carpentry, printing, kitchens, studios, technical laboratories etc.), admin offices, meeting rooms, canteens, garages, sports halls and storage spaces

Solution

Düsseldorf’s Office for Schools and Education opted for ASSA ABLOY’s electronic eCLIQ programmable key system as its core security technology. The eCLIQ system is easy to use and program, as system administrators do not have to start each locking cylinder individually to replace batteries, for example.

Power is supplied by the key and communication with the cylinder is conducted via user keys and programming keys only. In addition to a compact design, this fully electronic system is characterized by robust, durable and secure components. Locking cylinders have no protruding elements and therefore no attack surfaces for potential vandalism – another reason eCLIQ is a popular choice in schools Europe-wide.

Access authorizations may be issued, deleted or changed in a short time by simple reprogramming via the management software. Teachers and other employees upload individual access rights to their keys via wall programming devices. In cases of key loss, authorizations are withdrawn quickly and easily; the risk of misuse of illegal duplicate keys is also minimized when changing users.

To date, eCLIQ secures access at 30 Düsseldorf schools and colleges: the city-wide rollout continues.
