Around 90 miles west of Paris, the 19th-century basilica and sanctuary of Notre-Dame de Montligeon is the centre of a large complex of buildings.
Originally a printworks built to employ inhabitants of the area, these buildings now house workshops for entrepreneurs and artisans, plus a pilgrimage centre.
This centre comprises 300-seat conference and meeting rooms, a 750-seat canteen and free accommodation for up to 300 visiting pilgrims, who come to pray for deceased loved-ones.
Montligeon managers sought an access control and security upgrade for the entire site.
Key Requirements were:
Notre-Dame de Montligeon chose SMARTair® Update on Card access management to save money and cut the time wasted dealing with lost keys around the complex.
SMARTair® keyless Wall Readers and Escutcheons now protect all exterior doors at the site. These are programmed to allow free access during the day, but require a valid credential to unlock out of hours. Every lock/unlock cycle is logged and can be monitored by a system administrator. Sensitive interior doors — including to IT suites and basilica archives — are also fitted with SMARTair® devices, ensuring only authorized users enter.
Alongside security, device design and functionality were factors in choosing SMARTair®. Ease of opening is critical at a place where many visitors are elderly.
As part of an integrated offering, ASSA ABLOY were also able to supply Fluid panic bars for emergency exits, ensuring these openings complied with standard EN1125 to permit safe evacuation of pilgrims in an emergency.
