Intelligent key-based access control protects Venice’s unique heritage
The Fondazione Musei Civici di Venezia (MUVE) is responsible for 11 of Venice’s most famous museums, palaces, and historic homes. They look after more than 700,000 works of art, five specialist libraries, a photographic archive, and a warehouse, requiring a flexible, trusted access solution.
Managing high traffic into and around MUVE’s prestigious properties needs access control that has been proven in the heritage sector. In addition, the access technology must adapt to the setting: precious historical buildings. Door security should be formidable but almost invisible, respecting the valuable, often delicate structure of museum doors with locks which are up to 300 years old.
MUVE also wants access management that is user-friendly and will protect staff, visitors, and property. Easy auditing and a more time-efficient approach to dealing with lost keys are also a must, to save time and reduce administration workload.
Solution
For all these reasons, MUVE chose CLIQ® programmable key-based access solution from ASSA ABLOY Opening Solutions.
With CLIQ®, doors and a wide range of other openings are locked with a comprehensive portfolio of wireless locking cylinder types and padlocks. Site users unlock with their own battery powered CLIQ® key, which is pre-programmed to open only authorized doors or access points.
The design of an CLIQ® cylinder enables concealed installation: MUVE benefits from modern access functionality without altering the appearance of their properties. CLIQ® devices can be fitted without any drilling around the door. An installer simply swaps the existing mechanical cylinder for an CLIQ® cylinder and secures it in place with one screw.
MUVE’s security teams now operate more efficiently; they no longer manage huge numbers of mechanical keys; and they issue individuals with access rights limited to their work tasks and authorized on-site timetable. Audit trails allow administrators to track who went where, and when, if an investigation is needed.
«Everyone at MUVE has been enthusiastic about the system, because it has made their job, movement and managing access to the buildings easier», says Lorenzo Palmisano, Security and Logistics Manager at MUVE.
Building users appreciate the convenience of carrying one key which can be updated and reprogrammed anytime.
«This project in some of the world most precious buildings is yet another example of how ASSA ABLOY solutions can be tailored to even the most challenging environment», says Stephan Schulz, CLIQ® Product Manager at ASSA ABLOY Opening Solutions EMEIA. «CLIQ® devices are designed for near-invisible installation at historic properties. In addition to MUVE, the CLIQ® solution is already trusted to protect Berlin’s Deutsches Theater and Humboldt Forum, MAK in Vienna, France’s Thiepval Museums, Stockholm’s Vasamuseet and many more high-profile heritage buildings.»
«It is a very functional solution that combines together the highest elements of safety with, of course, our cultural heritage», adds Lorenzo Palmisano.
