eCLIQ makes access easy for EV charging stations

ASSA ABLOY’s eCLIQ now guards a network of rapid-charging stations for electric vehicles (EVs) in Germany. eCLIQ is a smart access control that makes authorization flexible and key management hassle free.

The challenge

Based in Bonn, Germany, Comfort Charge operates charging stations for electric vehicles throughout the country. As part of the Deutsche Telekom Group, the company is on a mission to facilitate the infrastructure for e-mobility in Germany to accelerate the nation’s race to zero emissions.

The demand for charging stations is increasing in Germany as more people transition to EVs and keeping the charging stations in good service is imperative for speeding up the societal shift to reducing carbon emissions. But complicated processes for maintenance could hinder that development if electric vehicle owners cannot access functioning charging stations whenever they need. Therefore, technicians should be able to access the units when a problem is discovered and fix the issues without delays.

The solution

Our eCLIQ electronic smart key access control proved to be a perfect match for the customer. The system offered flexibility thanks to its programmable key system management. Access authorization can be assigned through the system software, and lost keys can be deactivated at short notice. Furthermore, the technicians serving the units can obtain personalized authorization for specific tasks.

Another important feature of eCLIQ is its robustness. Charging stations are often installed in outdoor spaces, and the lock system must be strong enough to withstand various weather conditions. eCLIQ cylinders are weather-resistant and come with a lubricant reserve that allows the locks to be maintenance-free for up to 200,000 cycles. The keys have 10-year battery life and are equipped with protection against dust and water.

The compact size of eCLIQ increases its value for the client as well since they do not take up space in the charging units.
