Provision of Data
| How do I request data from ASSA ABLOY? | Create a new order and select “SAM data request”. Matrix will then automatically create a new order with one item containing one XDA2. You can also create SAM data in any other order as an additional item. Simply add another item line and enter one XDA2. You will find further details and screenshots in the request process. |
| How do you receive data from ASSA ABLOY? | Once the data has been uploaded by ASSA ABLOY Sicherheitstechnik, import it in the same manner as other lockchart data in Matrix (see How do I receive lockchart data?). In the orders overview, you will see the data in the order type “SAM Data”. Export the data in SAM format by opening the order and exporting it (right-click -> “Export SAM Lockchart Data” or File/Export/SAM Lockchart Data). |
| What billing models are there? | You can request SAM lockchart data individually or as part of a subscription. You will be provided with the lockchart data once if you order individual data. The fixed price for the data requested does not depend on the size or type of system. If you have not taken out a data subscription, you will be billed for each data request. This type of invoicing is more appealing for smaller locking installations with just a few orders per year. If you order a SAM data subscription, there is a fee for each locking installation per year. However, you can request data for that locking installation as often as you like within the subscription period - without charge. A subscription is therefore beneficial for locking installations for which it is likely additional requests or expansions will be made. As there is currently no automatic data provision for subscription customers, please add an additional item to every order or complaint with the article XDA2. |
| How do I request SAM data subscriptions? | SAM data subscriptions have article number XDA3 and there are two variants: With and without time limitation. SAM subscription with time limitation Provide us with a term of X full years, and we will apply the subscription term to the day. In this case, the subscription will expire on the date provided. The minimum period is one year and can only be extended by full years. If you would like this subscription form, please provide us with the end of the term in order to avoid any misunderstandings. Example: You would like a 3-year subscription. If ordering on 12/3/2015, you will enter 3x XDA3. The subscription period is 12/3/2015 – 11/3/2018. Advantages:
SAM subscription without time limitation / mid-year subscription Alternatively, you can also order a subscription duing the year for an unlimited period of time. The subscription then runs until 31 December of the respective year and is automatically renewed for another year unless it is cancelled in good time. There is a 3-month period of notice, i.e. by 30/09. The price for the subscription may vary for the following year. Example: You would like an unlimited subscription. If ordering on 12/3/2015, you will enter 1x XDA3. The subscription period is 12/3/2015 – 31/12/2015. Advantages:

| Can I only request SAM data by Matrix? | Yes. We must have the order via Matrix as the data is sent to the Matrix installation through which we also received the order. |
| Can the data on existing locking installations also be supplied? | Yes. The only condition is that the locking installation was ordered after 1989 or it is completely electronically recorded subsequently. |
Range of functions
| Can I create datasets manually? | Yes, you can enter up to ten datasets yourself. You are therefore not obliged to request current lockchart data. If you have used the ten datasets, current lockchart data must be reimported and synchronised. You will be asked to merge the manually entered datasets with those provided. If all manual data has been synchronised, you can then enter up to ten more datasets. This process also ensures that you always have the latest lockchart and full and correct data. |
| Can multiple locking installations be managed with SAM? | Yes, for each additional locking installation, simply create another database file under “Settings / Database”. |
| How are +CLIQ locking installations portrayed? | You can also manage +CLIQ locking installations with SAM. The data provided contains both the mechanical and electronic components. To programme the electronic components, you will also need CLIQ (Web) Manager. |
| Can I move the database to the network drive? | Yes! To do so, simply change the storage location in the “Database file” section under Settings and state the path to the desired directory. |

Initial steps
| After installation | If starting SAM for the first time, some functions will not yet be available. To be able to use the programme, you will first need the SAM lockchart data for your locking installation. Contact your specialist dealer for this lockchart data. See also: Requesting SAM lockchart data. If you have not yet received any SAM lockchart data, yet, or you just want to try out the programme, you can familiarise yourself with SAM using a sample lockchart. Please also provide your user details. This is used at various points, such as when issuing or returning keys. |
| Requesting SAM lockchart data | Under 'Settings / Lockchart data’, click on ‘Request lockchart data’ to make a request in ASSA ABLOY Matrix II format. This contains an order item with the article XDA2 (SAM lockchart data) and your user details. Send this file to your specialist dealer, e.g. by e-mail, so they can complete it and request the data. Separately, you can also make the request as before: For example, the next time you are requesting cylinders or keys for your locking installation, simply add another item with article number XDA2. You will find further details and screenshots in the request process. |
| Read SAM lockchart data | Once you have received the data from your specialist dealer, you can import it. To do so, select ‘Settings / Lockchart data’ and select ‘Read lockchart data’. SAM will now import the data and also generate the list of doors and cylinders that you can “install” in accordance with the lockchart if desired. |
| Assign a password | When starting SAM for the first time, no password is assigned. If you want to assign a password, check the ‘Activate password protection’ field under Settings / Password protection. NOTE: The password cannot be reset. If Windows login is not sufficient and you wish to assign a password, please make sure not to lose the user name and password! |
| Data backup | SAM saves all processes in a database, which you should backup regularly. As the SAM database is a SDF file (Microsoft SQL Server Compact Edition), you can copy it as a regular file. The simplest form of data backup is therefore: Simply create a backup copy of your SAM database by regularly copying the file on an external hard drive. |
| Adding persons | Persons can be added manually in SAM or they can be imported via a list in CSV format. To add persons manually, change to the ‘Persons’ view and click on ‘New’ in the tool bar. You can now enter the personal data in the rows that appear. Close the entry by leaving the row (click through or click elsewhere). In order to import persons via CSV, please also change to the ‘Persons’ view and now select ‘Import’. Click on ‘...’ to select the CSV file. If the CSV contains column headers, SAM will try to automatically assign these to its own headings. If there are no headers or if they cannot readily be assigned, please make the assignments manually. Headers that have not been assigned will not be imported. Note that when reimporting persons, these will be created in duplicate! |
Main functions
| Install cylinder | Once you have imported the SAM lockchart data, state which cylinders are installed on which doors. You can do this both in the ‘Cylinders’ view and in the ‘Doors’ view. You can also have SAM perform this step automatically by stating during the import process that cylinders are to be installed on doors in accordance with the lockchart. Cylinder -> Door: In the ‘Cylinder’ view, click on the cylinder you wish to install. In the ‘Door’ column, now select the door on which the cylinder is installed. Door -> Cylinder: In the ‘Doors’ view, click on the door on which a cylinder is installed. Now select the corresponding cylinder in the ‘Cylinder’ column. |
| Dismount cylinder | In order to remove a cylinder, proceed as for the cylinder installation. However, instead of a door or a cylinder select the entry ‘Not installed’. |
| Key issuance | To issue a key, a recipient must first have been added. In order to issue a key, you can first select the receiving person or the key to be issued. Key -> Person In the ‘Keys’ view, first select one or several keys you wish to issue. Now click on 'Key issuance’ in the tool bar, select a recipient and modify the issuance options if necessary. Person -> Key First select the person receiving the key in the persons view. Now click on 'Key issuance’ in the tool bar, select one or more keys and modify the issuance options if necessary. |
| Key returns | As with the key issuance procedure, keys can be returned either from the ‘Person’ view or from the ‘Key’ view. Key view In the ‘Keys’ view, first select the key that has been returned. Now click on ‘Key return' in the tool bar to book the return. Person view First select the person returning the key in the ‘Person’ view. Now click on ‘Key return' in the tool bar to select the key and then book the return. |
| Modify key status | To modify the key status, first select the corresponding key in the ‘Keys’ view. Now select ‘Modify key status’ in the tool bar and select the new status in the following window. Confirm the modification by clicking on ‘OK’; the status has now been modified and a corresponding entry made in the journal. |
Extended functions
| View reports | Reports provide you with additional information on the datasets selected. For example, you can see who owns a key and which doors can be opened with it. Depending on the current view, you can obtain different reports by clicking on ‘Reports’ on the tool bar and then selecting a report. |
| Configure e-mail sending | In order to configure SAM as an e-mail client, you only need your to enter your details. If the e-mail client has been configured, an e-mail incl. an attachment will be generated when requesting lockchart data from the specialist dealer; this bypasses the clipboard and e-mail generation steps. Click on ‘e-mail account settings’ in Settings / Lockchart data and enter the connection details of your e-mail provider: Server: Enter the outgoing mail server here. This is often also called the SMTP server. Port: SAM sends e-mails with SSL encryption. Enter the port for the SSL encryption here. The standard value is 465. User name: Enter your e-mail address here Password: Enter your e-mail provider password here.
As the settings may vary from provider to provider, please look up your settings yourself.
