Lucerne is home to one of the largest schools in Switzerland: the Staffeln School. Around 600 children and more than 100 teachers and support staff go in and out of the elementary school every day. The complex consists of three buildings with classrooms, two preschools, rooms for supplementary childcare, and a triple-purpose gymnasium. Rooms for shared use are on the ground floor of the three buildings. Music and sports clubs meet there outside of school hours to rehearse or practice, for example, and events are also held there. The new building therefore required a locking solution that would meet a very high security standard and provide easy management of access authorizations due to its many different user groups. That’s why the City of Lucerne opted for the KESO eCLIQ locking system from ASSA ABLOY (Schweiz) AG to secure the school.
The locking system was mainly chosen for the fact that it offers modern management with a high degree of flexibility. Access authorizations can be defined quickly and easily with KESO eCLIQ. Lost keys are simply disabled. It is also possible to limit authorizations to certain times and areas of the school. For example, club members are only granted access to the rooms after the end of the school day, and the access authorizations for substitute teachers at the Staffeln School are disabled after their assignment is completed. The management of the system is cloud-based via a browser. In addition to the facility manager, the city itself has access to the system.
A total of 330 system-relevant doors were equipped with KESO eCLIQ, and around 300 keys were distributed. No wiring was required for the installation of the electronic cylinders, which resulted in low installation costs. Users must insert their keys into a wall-mounted programming device once a week to renew their access authorizations. This provides another positive aspect: if a key is lost, the access authorization expires automatically after one week and unauthorized persons cannot enter the building. The wide range of cylinder types is another special advantage of the locking system: lockers, the school’s mailbox and the control panel in the gymnasium could be equipped with KESO eCLIQ.
Planet drop-down seals create barrier-free interior and exterior doors that are sealed against driving rain. The robust MSL FlipLock locks also ensure a high level of security and fire protection. As for escape route technology, the City of Lucerne also opted for a solution from ASSA ABLOY in combination with escape route technology products.
The Staffeln School is now optimally secured in all respects. Further projects with the city are already being planned.
