Mechanical locking systems from KESO: proven security for your buildings

Mechanical locking systems offer reliable protection for all types of buildings – from residential buildings to companies to public facilities. With KESO locking cylinders and keys, ASSA ABLOY sets standards in terms of security, durability, and versatility.

What sets KESO products apart are the precision manufacturing, high-quality materials, and innovative security technology – in Swiss quality, of course. They can be easily integrated into existing systems and flexibly adapted to different requirement profiles – ideal for new buildings and retrofits.

Function of mechanical locking solutions

Mechanical locking cylinders work according to a proven principle. On the inside, precisely arranged pins or disc tumbler locks ensure security. Only when the precisely matching key is inserted will these elements align correctly, enabling the cylinder core to be turned. This technology requires no power or electronic components, providing a low-maintenance, long-lasting solution.

KESO locking cylinders feature advanced protection mechanisms to prevent tampering attempts. The KESO 8000Ω² locking system, for example, uses patented active copy protection with moving elements in the key, which are verified directly in the cylinder.

Decision-making aid: Mechanical, mechatronic, or electronic locking?

When choosing the right locking system, there are three factors to consider: simplicity of access management, flexibility for users, and security level.

  • Mechanical locking systems such as KESO 8000Ω² and KESO 6000FP2 offer reliable protection without a power supply – ideal for standard applications and cost-conscious solutions.
  • Mechatronic systems such as KESO Integra combine mechanical and electronic components – perfect for growing requirements or the gradual modernization of existing locking systems.
  • Electronic locking systems such as KESO eCLIQ or KESO CLIQ Go enable digital, software-based access control with flexible authorization assignment.

Answers to frequently asked questions about mechanical locking systems

  • Modern mechanical locking cylinders offer a high level of security thanks to precision components made of hardened steel, complex pin arrangements, and special tamper protection mechanisms. Every KESO locking system comes with a personal security card, which is required when placing reorders and prevents unauthorized persons from gaining access to spare parts or extensions.

  • Measure the distance from the center of the fixing screw to the outside and inside of the door. Take the door fitting into account – the protrusion should be a maximum of 3 millimeters. For special requirements, we recommend consulting an ASSA ABLOY expert.

  • There are different types of locking systems for different requirements:

    • Master key systems: A master key opens all cylinders, while individual keys only open specific doors.
    • Central key systems: All keys belonging to the system can open certain central cylinders (e.g. entrance doors).
    • Central master key systems: These systems combine the characteristics of master and central key systems for medium-sized companies.
    • General master key systems: These systems offer multiple hierarchy levels with differentiated authorization levels for complex organizational structures.
  • Electronic locking systems such as KESO eCLIQ and KESO CLIQ Go are advantageous if you need flexible access authorizations, keys are frequently lost, there are employee changes, time-limited access authorizations are required, or access must be logged.

  • Yes, of course! KESO Integra enables seamless integration of mechanical locking cylinders into a digital access control system. You manage the electronic components in common software. This enables a gradual transition to electronic solutions without having to completely replace existing infrastructure.
