Are supervisory duties and safe escape routes incompatible?
Teachers have a duty of supervision for the children and must ensure that children do not leave the preschool unattended and suddenly stand on the street.
The right escape route technology is therefore essential.
The main entrance door of preschools and daycare centers is subject to different requirements:
On the outside of the door, a switch is mounted that is only activated at certain times (e.g. during pick-up and drop-off times). Parents can conveniently open the door from the outside during these periods. When the door closes, it is automatically locked again immediately.
Authorized persons can also use a key switch to unlock the door outside the specified times.
On the inside, a button and an escape route terminal are installed next to the door: The button, at a height of 1.80 meters, is easily accessible for adults but out of reach for the children. Adults can unlock the door from the inside at any time by pressing this button. In an emergency, the children can also press an emergency button located at a height of approximately 1.05 meters.
Planet finger protection is the ideal solution, especially where many children go in and out. Childcare staff in daycare centers know how quickly a small child’s hand can be trapped in the gap between the door leaf and the frame. In Switzerland, the Federal Office for Accident Prevention (bfu) advises that pinch points in childcare facilities be safeguarded.
